U.S. stock futures are pointing higher, as bullishness around earnings offsets concerns about what the Federal Reserve will say this week about the outlook for interest rates; Tesla (TSLA) shares jump as CEO Elon Musk’s China visit helps clear the path for the EV maker to launch its driver-assistance system to the world’s biggest auto market; shares in Paramount Global (PARA) rise ahead of quarterly results and amid reports the company plans to fire CEO Bob Bakish; Koninklijke Philips (PHG) shares soar after the Dutch medical devices giant reached an agreement on a $1.1 billion settlement to pay out personal injury cases linked to a recall of its sleep apnea devices; and the Japanese yen rebounds amid talk authoriti☂es intervened to prop it up after it hit its weakest level against the dollar in 34 years. Here’s what investors need to know today.

1. US Stock Futures Rise Ahead of Busy Earnings Week, Fed⛄ Meeting

U.S. stock futures are pointing higher ahead of Monday's opening bell, after 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:shares ended Friday with their first weekly gain following three weeks of losses as shares of Google parent Alphabet (GOOGL) jumped after better-than-expected earnings and the announcement of its 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:first-ever dividend payment. The news from Alphabet, as well as an earnings beat from Microsoft (MSFT), outweighed concerns the day before about Meta Platforms’ (META) 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:heavy AI spending. 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:A slew of earning reports are on the calendar for this week, with Big Tech stalwarts Amazon (AMZN) on Tuesday and Apple (AAPL) on Thursday among the highlights. Market participants are also anxiously awaiting comments from the Federal Reserve, which convenes its two-day policy meeting starting tomorrow. While the 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:central bank is expected to keep its influential fed fund rate unchanged as inflation 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:remains sticky, investors will be closely monitoring comments from Fed Chair Jerome Powell about the possible timing of rate cuts.

2. Tesla Soars as Musk Nears🉐 Driver-Assistance Service Launch in China

Tesla (TSLA) shares were up 10% about two hours before the opening bell after Elon Musk’s surprise visit to China paid immediate dividends, with the EV maker reportedly clearing two key hurdles to introduce its driver-assistance system to the world’s biggest auto market. Tesla will partner with Chinese tech giant Baidu Inc. for mapping and navigation functions to deploy what it calls Full-Self Driving, or FSD, Bloomberg reported. Tesla has also passed a key data-security and privacy requirement in China, which would help ease some of the concerns over bringing FSD to market. The Tesla chief executive’s unannounced trip to China on Sunday was aimed at seeking approval for driver-assistance software that could help arrest slumping sales at the EV maker, which has been struggling against cheaper Chinese rivals. Tesla last week announced an accelerated production timeline for new products including 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:an affordable electric vehicle and is set to unveil its robotaxi in August.

3. Paramount Gains Ahead o🌜f Earnings, Possible CEO Oust🀅er

Shares in Paramount Global (PARA) rose nearly 5% in premarket trading ahead of quarterly earnings and as the media giant reportedly prepares to fire Chief Executive Officer Bob Bakish as soon as this morning. Paramount Global won’t be on today’s earnings call, according to CNBC. Bakish has lost the trust of Paramount Global controlling shareholder Shari Redstone, CNBC said, citing people familiar with her thinking. Redstone wanted to make a move to oust Bakish before Paramount Global’s carriage negotiation with Charter Communications, which is pivotal for setting a value for the company in its talks with Skydance Media, with which it is in🥀 exclusive merger talks.

4. Philips Shares Soar as♐ Dutch Firm Agrees to a $1.1B Settleme꧟nt for Sleep Apnea Devices

Koninklijke Philips (PHG) shares traded in the U.S. soared 40% in premarket trading after the Dutch medical devices giant agreed to a $1.1 billion settlement to pay out personal injury cases linked to the recall of some of its sleep apnea devices. It said it did not admit any fault or liability, or that any injuries were caused by its Respironics devices. Philips in January said it 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:would halt sales of the devices in the U.S. The Dutch firm had issued a recall of the machines in 2021 after officials said that they were dangerous, because sound-reducing polyurethane foam in the devices could break down and potentially be inhaled or swallowed by users.

5. Japanese Yen 🎐Rebounds on Intervention Talk After Hitting Weakest Level Vs Dollar Since 1990

The Japanese yen rebounded in early trading amid speculation authorities intervened to prop up the currency after it hit 160 to the dollar, its weakest level since 1990. The yen has been slumping after the Bank of Japan kept its interest-rate target on Friday—a month after it raised rates and澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网: 🧔ended its negative interest rate regime. Japanese investors have been flocking to the dollar, which has benefited from higher interest rates as 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:signs of strong U.S. inflation keep American interest rates higher for longer. The yen was trading at 157.07 (), although trading volumes are also thin as it is a public holiday in Japan.
