Microsoft Hires DeepMind Co-Founder Mustafa Suleyman as CEO of AI Unit

DeepMind co-founder Mustafa Suleyman is joining Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) to lead its growing 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:artificial intelligence (AI) unit, the company said Tuesday.

Suleyman will be the new chief executive officer of Microsoft AI, and will lead the development of a number of the company's AI products, including Copilot, Bing, and Microsoft Edge, the company announced.

Suleyman co-founded DeepMind, which became a well-known name in the AI space when it was acquired by Google (GOOGL)🧜 in 2014. He left in 2022 to co-found Inflection, another AI company, with Karén Simonyan, who is also leaving Inflection to join Microsoft as the AI unit's Chief Scientist.

"At our core, we have always been a platform and partner-led company, and we’ll continue to bring that sensibility to all we do," Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said in a memo sent to employees Tuesday that also was posted on the company's blog.

"Our AI innovation continues to build on our most strategic and important partnership with OpenAI. We will continue to build AI infrastructure inclusive of custom systems and silicon work in support of OpenAI’s foundation model roadmap, and also innovate and build products on top of their foundation models. And today’s announcement further rei🎃nforces our pa𒊎rtnership construct and principles."

An unspecified number of Inflection employees are also coming with Suleyman and Simonyan in joining Microsoft, according to the company. Microsoft previously had invested in Inflection, which said in a Tuesday blog post it is hiring former Mozilla executive Sean White as its new CEO.

"It’s been an amazing journey, with so much more to come," Suleyman said Tuesday in a post on the social media platform X. "Thank you to everyone for your support. Things really are just getting started."

Microsoft shares closed 1% higher at $421.41 on Tuesday. The stock has gained more than 5🅰0% over the past year.
