If you want to send money to friends and family, it’s hard to beat Venmo. With over 60 millio꧃n users, it’s a popular and inexpensive way to transfer money (as long as the other person has Venmo, PayPal, or an eligible digital wallet).
Anyone in the U.S. can download the app (for iPhone or Android) and send or receive money at no cost: Standard transfers from your Venmo balance, bank account, or debit card are free. Some other apps, like Zelle and Meta Pay, offer convenient free transfers as well, but they come with some extra hurdles (must have eligible bank accounts or Meta accounts, reౠspectively).
After verifying your account, you can send up to $60,000 per week. That’s one of the highest transfer🦋 limits we found in our research into money transfer apps (Wise and WorldRemit allow more). You can use your Venmo balance for online purchases as well, with a limit of $7,000 spent per week.
Venmo features a so🐷cial aspect, unlike other P2P apps. By default, your Venmo transactions are public, but you can easily set your activity to private (and we recommend doing so).
If you’re interested, you can apply for a standard debit card, a 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:Venmo Teen debit card, or a Venmo credit card. These can be used like any other payment card, with the debit cards pulling from your Venmo balance.
Venmo was founded in 2009. It came under the control of PayPal in 2013, when PayPal acquired the payment service Braintree. PayPal’s headquarters are in San Jose, California.

Wise is a money transfer app built for people who need to make internationa🌠l transfers or send large amounts of money. It’s an excellent choice if you fit that description because it works in 160 countries (only PayPal has more) and supports more than 40 currencies around the world.
Wise can’t be beat if you need to send a lot of money—it allows up to $1 million per local USD ACH transfer, $6 million per local USD wire transfer, and $1.6 million per international 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:Swift transfer.
Wise fees vary quite a bit, however. Depending on the type of transfer (bank account, credit card, international, etc.), you may pay a fixed fee and a percentage fee. Single-currency transfers between Wise account b💛alances are free and iᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚnstant. If currency exchange is necessary, current exchange rates play a role, as well (Wise uses the mid-market rate). The best way to figure out how much a particular transaction will cost is to input the details in Wise’s fee-checker tool.
Wise may not be the best choice for people sending payments to their friends in the U.S., since it charges a fee to withdraw your balance to your bank account (some other money transfer apps offer free withdrawals)🌼. And there are fees for sending money directly to bank accounts. However, it’s a great option for people who want to send money internationally, particularly when sending large sums, or those who need a convenient and affordable way to spend money abroad without a credit card.
Wise has a great reputation for customer satisfaction, based on Investopedia's combined customer rating score. Wise was founded in 2011; it’s incorporated in Delaware and has an office in New York.

Can’t 🌳send money from the U.S. to the European Union
Payment metho🍒ds and reception options vary by country
ACH payments from the U.S. can♈ take up to four days
WorldRemiꦓt is a solid choice to send money internationally, supporting multiple currencies and over 130 countries. If you typically send money to or receive money from another country, compare WorldRemit’s fees to Wise to see if you can save.
WorldRemit charges a fairly low, fixed fee for international bank transfers. You can send money from the U.S. to the U.K. for just $1.99, and it should arrive within two working days. But transfer times vary depending on the countries, currencies, and payment method. When you are paying from a U.S. bank account with an ACH transfer, WorldRemit acknowledges that the service is relatively slow—it can take up to four working days for the payment to reach WorldRemit, plus additional time for the money to reach the recipien⛎t.
WorldRemit has some important limitations to be ⛄aware of, however. You can’t send money from the U.S. to the European Union, and you can only send money directly to a bank account in certain countries (including Mexico, the U.K., Australia, and Canada). You can send up to $5,000 from the U.S. per transaction, and up to $9,000 per 24 hours. You can store funds in a WorldRemit wallet, but only in certain countri🐻es.
WorldRemit earned a great score in Investopedia's overall customer rating, which combines customer satisfaction scores from multiple sources. WorldRemit was founded in 2010 and is headquartered in London.

- Supported Countries: U.S.
Free domestic transfers via bank a꧟ccount or debit ca🐈rd
Transfers are usually instant
Works with many U.S. banking apps
No international transfers
No credit card payments
May have lower daily/monthly transferꩵ limits, depending on you🧸r bank or credit union
Zelle is a great choice for domestic bank-to-bank transfers within the U.S. because you can send money instantly, for free. There’s a good chance that Zelle is available in 🅷your banking app because over 2,200 banks and credit unions support Zelle transfers. Although Zelle itself doesn’t charge fees, you may want to check if🦋 your bank or credit union tacks on a fee.
Zelle can’t do everything, however. It’s only available in the U.S. and it only supports USD, so it can’t be used to send money internationally. You can’t transfer money from a credit card, either—only bank accounts and personal debit cards. Depending 🉐on your bank and other factors, certain transfer limits may apply when sending money with Zelle, li༺ke transaction and monthly limits.
Zelle once offered an app that allowed you to transfer money regardless of whether or not your bank or credit union supports Zelle, but it's no longer available.
Early Warning Services💙, the fintech company that owns Zelle, is based in Scottsdale, Arizona. The company launched the Zelle service in 2017.
Some scam artists use Zelle because transfers typically can’t be canceled once they’re sent. A fraudster mayꦺ even impersonate someone from your bank. To avoid losing money to fraud, be sure to only send money to people you know💟, with Zelle or any other money transfer app.

Cash App is a convenient and inexpensive way to send money for most everyday purposes. It’s free to send money from your Cash account or deꦬbit card, and standard withdrawals to your bank account are free as well, although they may take up to three business days (instant withdrawals cost 0.5% to 1.75%).
Individual transfer limits may apply. Unlike some other apps🙈, like Zelle, you can send money with a credit card, but this isn’t recommended: You’ll be charged a 3% fee by Cash App for credit card transfers, plus additional fees from your card issuer.
Cash App can only be used to send money to people in the U.S. or the U.K., although the Cash App Card can be used 🧜internationally with no fees.
While you can use your Cash App card internationally (with a 2% fee), you can’t use Cash App to send money to people outside of the U.S. and the U.K. The Cash App Card comes with 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:FDIC insurance for your cash balance, along with instant discounts when yo𓆏u shop, access to ATMs, and the option to auto-invest with each transaction via roundups. Cash App can even be used to buy, sell, send, and receive bitcoin and buy and sell stocks commission-free.
Cash App, which was founded in 2013, is owned by fintech company Block. Block was investigated in May 2024 by federal prosecutors and was fined by the CFPB in January 2025 for failing to provide proper safeguards to prevent unauthorized transactions.

High $60,000 transfer limit for verified accounts
Free domestic P2P🌄 transactions via PayPal 🐻balance or bank account
Use PayPal balance to shop online
Highly rated mobile apps
3%–4% fee for currency conversions
Recipient must have PayPal account
Poor customer ratings
PayPal is a good tool for domestic P2P transfers, especially for sending and receiving large amounts of money. It allows up to $60,000 per transfer for verified accounts, which is more than most money transfer apps we have researched (only Wise allꦕows more). PayPal may limit transfers to $10,000 in some cases, but there’s no cap on the number of transfers. Be aware that the recipient will need their own PayPal account.
Domestic and international transfers are both pretty quick in most cases. PayPal🤡 says they’ll usually be completed within minutes, although they may take longer in som𒀰e cases.
But PayPal isn’t the best choice for international transfers, as it adds a 3% to 4% currency conversion spread along with transfer fees. This 🐻usually won’t be as favorable as Wise’s mid-market currency conversion rate.
Most money transfer apps allow free withdrawals from your app balance to your bank account or debit card but charge for instant withdrawals. PayPal is no exception: Standard transfers are free (unless currency conversion is required), but you’ll pay 1.75% for insta🌱nt withdrawals (and withdrawal limits apply).
PayPal has won many awards for excellence, like Webby awards, since its founding in 1998. PayPal is headquartered in San Jose, Califor📖nia.
A PayPal account can be used to shop online💛 at thousands of retailers wit🧜hout providing your payment card information.

Requires a🃏 Facebook, Instagram, or Messenger account
I😼nternational transfers for U.S. residents are not allowed
Relatively low maximum transfer amount of $10,000
If you’ve got a Facebook account, Meta Pay makes it quick and easy to send money back and forth to other users, whether you’re on Facebook itself, Messenger, or Instagram (Messenger payments are only available through the mobile app). Outside of the U.S., depending on where you live, Meta Pay may also be available in WhatsApp. Transfers are free and instant, although depending on your payment m🥂ethod it may take up to five days for your balance to update.
Meta Pay’s transf🍬er limits are lower than many other money transfer apps we researched, although they should be plenty high enough in most cases. Transfer limits depend on the payment method:
- 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:Visa debit card: $10,000 per transaction; $10,000 per 30-day period
- 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:Mastercard debit card: $5,000 per transaction; $10,000 per 30-day period
- PayPal account: $3,000 per transaction; $3,000 per 30-day period
Meta Pay will save your payment in🐽fo, but it doesn’t offer a wallet✃ for storing funds. Any payments made must come directly from one of the sources above. And although it’s available through a few different apps and services, there may be certain limitations depending on the service used.
Meta Pay is available in the U.S. (except for Wisconsin) and over 140 countries, but U.S. residents can only send money domestically—inte𝔍rnational transfers are not allowed.
While Meta Pay is available in 143 countries, U.S. residents currently can’t use it for international money transfers. Meta Pay securely stores your payment info, but it doesn’t offer a wallet for sto𓃲ring funds. And although Meta Pay can be used in both Messenger and WhatsApp, there are some limitations depending on the app you’re using.
Meta Pay has some additional security features you may not find with every money transfer app, like anti-fraud technology, encrypꦚtion, and the option to create a PIN or use a fingerprint or Face ID on your phone to authorize a payment, with no need to provide your biometric info to Meta𒅌.
Facebook was founded by Mark Zuckerberg in 2004, and the company was rebra📖nded as Meta in 2021. Meta’s headquarters are in Menlo Park, California.

iPhone required; can’t send mo𓆉ney to Android users
If you’ve got an iPhone, you’ve got access to Ap🦋ple Cash, and you don’t need to download anything new to use it. Apple Cash is a digital card that’s built into Apple Wallet, which can be used to send money to any other iPhone user—but only between U.S. residents. Money can be conveniently sent through the Messages app, the Wallet app, or by simply holding yourꦉ phone near another phone after activating Tap to Cash.
For som✨e users, Apple Cash may allow higher transfer limits than Zelle and Cash App: Primary Apple Cash account holders can transfer up to $10,000 at a time, thou🤡gh Apple Cash Family Account users are limited to $2,000. The Tap to Cash feature is limited to $2,000 per transaction as well.
Money in your Apple Cash account can be spent at retailers with Apple Pay, and it may prove more secure than many other payment methods because you must authorize transactions with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode. Apple doesn’t share your payment information with merchants. You can also set up parental controls for kids, with limits on where money can be sent, notifications when money is spent, and the ability to lock the card so it can’t be used for purchases or transfers.
Apple Pay and Apple Cash are available in many countries aside from the U.S., but P2P transfers are only available between U.S. users. Still, you can use your Apple Cash balance when spending abroad (an extra fee may be charged). Apple Cash has been available since 2017.

The Bottom Line
You have a wealth of goo𝔉d options when it comes to money transfer apps. If you want to send money domestically to family, friends, and acquaintances, it’s hard to beat Venmo for convenience and affordability. With fast, free transfer🔜s, it’s a great way to split the tab or pay back someone you owe. If you need to send money to people in other countries, we suggest going with Wise or WorldRemit. Check the specific fees for the countries, currencies, and payment methods involved to see which is cheaper.
Zelle is an excellent choice for bank-to-bank ꦫtransfers, and if it’s not already built into your banking app you can download the Zelle app itself. Cash App is another good choice for domestic transfers, with the added ability to send and receive bitcoin. If you need something mostly for domestic transfers and o𝓀ccasional international transfers, PayPal could be right for you—as long as the other party has a PayPal account, too.
Finally, Meta Pay and Apple Pay are also very convenient and free to use for P2P payments—but again, only if the othe൩r peop💯le involved have the required accounts or phone.
