The major U.S. stock indexes finished Tuesday mixed after President Trump moved forward with his t🔥hreat to impose tariffs on steel and aluminum imporꦬts.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.3% on Tuesday, while the S&P 500 closed flat. The Nasdaq Composite fell 0.4%. All three indexes rose Monday as AI stocks rallied and investors shook o✅ff Trump’s tariff threats.

The latest tariffs, 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:enacted by Trump on Monday night, apply to all steel and aluminum imports and are slated to go into effect on March 12. Shares of American steelmakers were mixed Tuesday, with Cleveland-Cliffs (CLF) slipping after 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:soaring yesterday and Steel Dynamics (STLD) rising.

Earnings season chugged along on Tuesday, with 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:better-than-expected results from Coca-Cola (KO) lifting its stock nearly 5%. Among the other earnings movers were DuPont (DD), up 7% on 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:strong results, and AI chipmaker Astera Labs (ALAB), down ꦰnearly 11% despite blowing past earnings estimates.

Big tech stocks were mixed, with Apple (AAPL) up about 2% amid reports it would 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:partner with Alibaba (BABA) to roll out artificial intelligence features in China. Meta (META) inched higher to advance for a 17thౠ straight 🙈session.

Tesla (TSLA) slumped more than 6%, while the remainder of the Magnificent Seven tech stocks—Nvidia (NVDA), Microsoft (MSFT), Alphabet (GOOG), and Amazon (AMZN)—dipped less than 1%.

Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell went before members of the Senate on Tuesday, the first day of his biannual testimony to Congress. Powell reiterated that the central bank is in no rush to cut interest rates given stubbornly elevated inflation and America's solid labor market. He'll return to Capitol Hill tomorrow to address members of the House of Representatives.

Treasury yields climbed as investors reacted to Trump’s steel tariffs, which some economists say threaten to tuꦑrn up the heat on inflation. The 10-year Treasury yield, sensitive to expectations 🌼for both inflation and Fed policy, ticked up to 4.53%.

The price of Bitcoin slumped as low as $95,000 on Tuesday after climbing above $98,000 overnight. Gold futures pulled back to $2,925 an ounce after 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:jumping to a record high of $2,970 overnight as investors raced to safer havens following Trump’s tariff order. West Texaꦅs Intermediate crude oil futures rose for a second day, advancing more than 1% to $73 a barrel.

Top S&P 500 Movers on Tuesday

February 11, 2025 05:02 PM EST

Advancers:

  • DuPont De Nemours (DD) posted 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:better-t🔴han-expected sales and profits, driven by strength in electronics markets. Shares of the chemicals and materials manufacturer soared 6.9% to notch the S&P 500's top performance. The company plans to spin off its electronics segment later this year. DuPont's CEO stressed value-creation opportunities from the upcoming separation as the firm focuses on its high-growth water, health care, and other industrial businesses.
  • Ecolab (ECL), a provider of water, hygiene, and infection prevention solutions, beat fourth-quarter profit and sales estimates, and its 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:outlook for the current quartღer and🗹 full year also exceeded forecasts. The company said it expects strengthening macroeconomic trends in the U.S., its largest region, to drive demand for its products and services. Mizuho analysts lifted their price target on the stock following the earnings release, and Ecolab shares closed 6.2% higher.
  • Intel (INTC) shares jumped 6.1% after Vice President JD Vance vowed that the U.S. would prote🔥ct the country's artificial intelligence (AI) technologies from "theft and misuse" by foreign powers. Intel has received significant subsidies from the U.S. government as part of efforts to reinvigorate domestic chip production. The semiconductor giant also benefitted from positive reviews for the performance, battery efficiency, and speed of its latest processing chip.

Decliners:

  • Financial technology firm Fidelity National Information Services (FIS) beat fourth-quarter profit estimates. However, its sales came in below consensus forecasts, and earnings guidance for the first quarter 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:fell short of expectations. Analysts expressed concerns that persistent inflation, potentially related to tariff policies, could weigh on growth for Fidelity National and its peers. FIS shares plunged 11.5%, falling the furthest of any stock in the S&P 500 on Tuesday.
  • Shares of Super Micro Computer (SMCI) dropped 9.5% during the session as the server maker prepared to provide a business update after the closing bell. Tuesday's losses reversed a portion of the strong gains posted since last week's announcement of the event, which investors are likely to watch closely for insight into Supermicro's progress on its delayed annual report.
  • Tesla (TSLA) shares skidded 6.3% lower as CEO Elon Musk and a consortium of investors entered an unsolicited bid to take over research organization OpenAI, adding a potential distraction for the top executive beyond his involvement in Washington. In addition, Chinese electric vehicle (EV) rival BYD launched its driver assistance system, making the technology available on its full range of models, potentially posing a challenge to Tesla sales.

Intel Stock Soars as VP Vance Says AI Chip😼s Will Be Made in US

February 11, 2025 04:04 PM EST

Intel (INTC) shares soared Tuesday and were among the 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:S&P 500's top performers after Vice President JD Vance said the Trump administration wants 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:artificial intelligence chips manufactured domestically.

“To safeguard America’s advantage, the Trump administration will ensure that the most powerful AI systems are built in the U.S. with American-designed and manufactured ch🀅ips,” Vance said Tuesday at the AI Action Summit in Paris.

Policies favoring U.S. chip manufacturers could benefit Intel’s struggling foundry business, which manufactures chips in the U.S. for third parties. The foundry lost $13.4 billion in 2024 and has been the subject of 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:sale speculation in recent months.

Shares of Intel jumped 6% to about $21 Tuesday following Vance's speech, but even with Tuesday's gains, the stock has lost more than half its value over the past 12 months.

Shopify S💧tock Finds Its Footing After Q4 Results Top Estimates, Outlook Disappoints

February 11, 2025 03:32 PM EST

Price Levels To Watch as Gold Retreats From Overn🥃ight All-Time High

February 11, 2025 02:47 PM EST

Gold () price surged to a fresh record of more than $2,960 Monday night after President Trump announced 澳洲幸运5官方开ꦚ奖结果体彩网:25% tariffs on ste🅺el and aluminum imports and investors braced for inflation data l♛ater this week.

The prospect of looming 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:trade wars continues to cloud the global growth outlook, prompting investors to flock to gold, a 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:safe haven asset, as a way to hedge against increasing economic uncertai﷽nty.

Gold’s next cue will likely come from this week’s 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:inflation data due on Wednesday. A weaker-than-expected reading would underpin the commodity’s rally by boosting 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:rate cut expectations, making non-yielding gold more attractive ⛎than its interest-bearing alternatives.

Since breaking out above a 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:symmetrical triangle last month, gold’s price has continued to move sharply higher, indicating a 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:continuation of the commodity’s strong uptrend.

Moreover, the 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:relative strength index (RSI) confirms bullish price momentum with a reading above the 70 threshold, though the indicator also points to 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:overbought conditions, which 🀅could lead to near-term profit taking.

Source: TradingView.com.

Investors can project an upside 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:price target by using the measured move technique, also known by chart watchers as the 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:measuring principle.

When applying the analysis to gold’s chart, we calculate the distance of the trend that preceded the symmetrical triangle and add that amount from the start of the commodity’s current move higher. For example, we add $502 to $2,596, which forecasts a target of $3,098, an area about 6% above current trading levels where the price may undergo a 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:consolidation phase.

During 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:retracements, investors should initially eye the $2,790 level, a location on the chart that may provide support near the October peak, which also mꦇarks the top o🍷f the symmetrical triangle.

The bulls’ inability to defend this level could see the price decline to around $2,530. The commodity finds a 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:confluence of support in this area from a brief consolidation period in August last year, the low of the symmetrical triangle, and the nearby 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:50-period moving average.

Finally, a more significant drop opens the door to the gold price revisiting lower support at the $2,430 level. Investors could look for 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:buy-and-hold opportunities in this region near the top trendline of a 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:rectangle that formed on the chart b🉐etween April and July last year.

Ecolab also said💃 it expects full year 2025 adjusted EPS to rise to a range of $ꦛ7.42 to $7.62, an increase of 12% to 15% compared with the $6.65 for 2024.

Phillips 66 Stock Jumps as Elliott Reportedly Takes More Than $2.5 Billioꦏn Stake

February 11, 2025 10:41 AM EST

Phillips 66 (PSX) shares jumped 4% Tuesday morning following a report by The Wall Street Journal that Elliott Investment Management has built a more than $2.5 billion stake in the oil refiner.

According to the report, which cited people familiar with the matter, Elliott wants Phillips 66 to simplify its operations and spin off or sell its big midstream business, as part of measures to boost the Houston-based energy firm’s lagging share price. 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:Midstream businesses are those that are focused on 澳洲幸运5官方开奖结果体彩网:transportation and involve moving the extracted raw materials t🦋o refineries to process the oil and gas.

Investopedia has not independently confirmed Elliott's stake in Phillips 66. Elliott and Phillips 66 did not immediately return requests for comment Tuesday morning.

Phillips 66 shares have fallen more than 11% in the past year.

Elliott in 2023 disclosed a $1 billion stake in the refiner, and a few months later the energy company announced the appointment of a director at the behest of the activist fund firm.
