🌱President Donald Tru♊mp on Sunday pulled back accelerated tariffs on imports from Europe that he’d announced just a few days earlier. 

Trump in a message on the Truth Social platform said that a 50% tariff on imports from the European Union would take effect July 9 rather than the June 1—this coming Sunday—deadline he’d suggested Friday. “The Commission President said that talks will begin rapidly,” Trump wrote, a reference to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. 

The news, which restores a previously set deadline, suggests that U.S.-Europe trade discussions that had evidently hit a snag—Trump on Friday said they were “going nowhere"—might again progress.

“The EU and US share the world’s most consequential and close trade relationship,” von der Leyen wrote in her own message on X.♍ “Europe is ready to advance talks swiftly and decisively.”
